Prettybelle (1971)

Opened at Shubert Theatre (Boston)
Opened: February 1, 1971
Closed: March 6, 1971
Prettybelle Sweet has lived the sheltered, privileged life of a southern lady, but after the death of her husband, a small town sheriff, she discovers the evil deeds he and his cronies have committed against the local minority population. And the townspeople don't take very kindly to Prettybelle's attempts at setting things right.

The fearlessly earthy tone of Bob Merrill's book is matched by Jule Styne's tuneful, raucous score.
