Hallelujah, Baby! (1967)

Opened at Martin Beck Theatre
Opened: April 26, 1967
Closed: January 13, 1968
Talented young Georgina is determined to achieve stardom and happiness, but as an African American, she faces challenges in the America of 1900. This bright and brave musical traces her rise and triumph through the 20th Century - though, as this is an allegory, neither Georgina, nor the people in her life, age one day from the first moment of the play to the last.

The book is by master dramatist Arthur Laurents, with brilliant songs by lyricists Betty Comden and Adolph Green and composer Jule Styne. The rich score includes "Talking To Yourself" - a heartbreaking trio for two men and the woman they both love, and Georgina's ballad of resolve and defiance, "Being Good Isn't Good Enough."
