Broadway

Funny Girl (1964)

Opened at Winter Garden Theatre
Opened: March 26, 1964
Closed: July 1, 1967
In the first half of the 20th century, Fanny Brice was Broadway's brightest comedienne. Her life, filled with triumph and tragedy, was the basis for one of Broadway's great show-biz musicals, tracing her rise to stardom in the Ziegfeld Follies, and her troubled romance with gambler Nicky Arenstein.

With a book by Isobel Lennart, lyrics by Bob Merrill, and music by Jule Styne, Funny Girl not only provided the young Barbra Streisand with her signature role, but also her signature songs, "People" and "Don't Rain On My Parade."
